Cailla Maree shares her story

“I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma when I was 15 years old.

“Nine months of chemotherapy and surgery kept me in hospital. For two years, I didn’t go to school, or to public places. I hid myself.

“Then, somewhere along the way, my faith started to ground me. I also gained strength from seeing other kids, some younger than myself, being so calm and brave whilst going through the same thing.

“Now, at 18, I look back and see how this experience has shaped me. I’m rebuilding, I’ve completed matric. I want to explore things that genuinely inspire me, to travel, and do something meaningful with my life.

“Cancer is part of my story, but it doesn’t get to be all of it. To now be a survivor is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”
