This 95th anniversary can’t pass without celebrating our wonderful volunteers who are at the heart of everything we do.
Playing a vital role in helping us carry out our mission, supporting patients and families affected by cancer, as well as extending our reach into communities across South Africa, we couldn’t do what we do without them.
We thank them for bringing compassion, hope and practical support where it’s needed most.
Their contributions will be recognised on Saturday 25 July – CANSA Volunteer Day under the banner of ‘Leading with love, serving with purpose’.
Pulling Everything Together – Dominee Rudolf Scharneck
Every quarter CANSA receives a provincial report on the activities of volunteers. In the Western Cape, this is done by Dominee Rudolf Scharneck who is also a volunteer and a fundraiser for CANSA. We’re deeply grateful for his services.
Standing out in this quarter’s report is the importance of active face-to-face support groups who enable connection to both new and long-term cancer patients, through the sharing of experiences and improving psychological and emotional wellbeing.
The work in the realm of volunteering can begin with advocacy and awareness, through referral, to home visits, telephonic and WhatsApp contact, distribution of care packs and food parcels, recovery programmes, to bereavement counselling when required.
