It’s starting to feel real

Small beginnings on site.

Towards the end of last year, we faced a tough but necessary decision – to reallocate resources from our Richards Bay Care Home due to low occupancy, ensuring we could better serve growing needs across KwaZulu-Natal.

Durban and Pietermaritzburg remain the province’s key cancer treatment centres. Mkhuhla Care Home in Durban has long provided a vital ‘home away from home’ for patients from distant areas, but surging demand has outstripped its capacity.

That is why we are excited to open a new care home in Pietermaritzburg – expanding access so more patients across KZN, including from Richards Bay, can receive the support they need close to treatment.

A suitable property in Pietermaritzburg was identified with some renovation work needed.

As we wait for approval of our consent application from all municipal departments we can only start on the non-structural work.

Once the renovations are done, the new home will be bigger than the Richards Bay home. This means that we’re also going to need more furnishings, equipment, and items which will make the property feel like the safe, comfortable and welcoming ‘home away from home’ that it needs to be.

With your continued generosity, the new care home in Pietermaritzburg will soon be a reality.
