On the part of CANSA it was a massive screening exercise for breast cancer awareness.
On the part of PEP Stores it was a community service campaign.
Each person who attended the screening was given a pink towel from PEP. This served initially as a disposable sheet on the portable examination beds, saving CANSA a great deal of money for linen savers. Then taken home, it was a reminder to busy women to at least examine their breasts monthly for any changes when drying after a bath or shower.
For their part in the campaign, PEP received several awards from the MMS South Africa: Project ‘Dry and Detect’ was a win/win partnership.
There were also enough towels to share with Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, for which we received this message of gratitude:
“On behalf of the Radiation Oncology Department I would really like to thank you so much for your continuous support to the patients. God bless you all.” (Sesana Mbatha – Oncology CMJAH – Gauteng Department of Health.)
